The techniques used in Reflexology differ significantly to what is offered in a foot massage session.
A professionally trained and qualified Reflexologist will work on reflex zones, applying gentle pressure which stimulate the nerves located in that area of the foot. This stimulus sends a message to the brain, which sends a signal to the corresponding organ, prompting a healing response in the body, releasing tension and promoting relaxation.
A massage therapist giving a foot massage will manipulate muscles and other soft tissues to release fascia, improve circulation, relieve pain, and induce overall relaxation. Some massage therapists have a basic knowledge of the reflex zones, but generally only have a little training in the reflex zones.
Certified Reflexologists are specifically trained in Reflexology and should hold a Certificate or a Diploma of Reflexology.
